The-city

Bosa is situated on the Northwest coast of Sardinia and is surrounded by many small agricultural towns, rich in culture and ancient ruins. The city is located in the province of Oristano and is the historical capital of the sub region Planargia.

The conception

When you arrive at the old bridge with its three arches, you will undoubtedly notice the famous and complex old tanneries which line the River Temo. These tanneries were built here due to the close proximity of the River, as water is an essential factor in the manufacture of leather.

You also have the opportunity to visit the tannery museum (previously the tannery of the Poddighe family) and learn about the famous cow bosana tanning process (which was last practiced in 1962 by the Sanna-Mocci brothers) as well as viewing work tools and old photographs.

Immediately next to the old bridge there is the most important church of the town: the Cathedral, which was built in the XII century and restored between 1805 and 1809. The restoration was required due to the poor state of preservation caused by the nearby presence of the river. The interior of the church was restored and decorated by the painter Emilio Scherer (who came from Parma).

The exit of the Cathedral leads out onto the ancient street corso Vittorio Emanuele II, where you will marvel at the prestigious buildings characterised by elegant windows, balconies and beautifully detailed architecture. When walking down corso Vittorio Emanuele II you can also find the Rosary Church complete with a magnificent clock which was placed in 1875. There is also the beautiful marble fountain within the Piazzetta, which is surrounded by the arches of the Palazzo Delitala, and the eighteenth century palace Don Carlo.

Close by there is the Capuchin conven and the Carmelite church, which was built in 1779 in the Piedmont baroque style of rich wooden décor.

There are many things to see and do in Bosa, and exploring the city is a very magical and unique experience thanks to the rich culture and history that can be found on every corner.
